All of these movies are in their original 1.85:1
anamorphic aspect ratios. The standouts are "Radio Days" and
"Broadway Danny Rose" if you ask me, but the others are
sadly a bit shoddy and I wish were more cleaned up.
Blemishes and scratches plague the transfers, plus a good
deal of softness.
All mono mixes... some of the movies have French and
Spanish ones, some just English. It's pure Allen style to
have mono mixes, and considering the context of these films,
the mono actually works rather well instead of any gloss
remix. English closed captions, English subtitles, French
subtitles and Spanish subtitles are all on of the films.
A keep case insert that has a collectible booklet with
information on each film, plus a Theatrical Trailer
on each disc.
The third Allen set from MGM is pretty great. I was
really disappointed with the second set since it didn't have
much of his good work. This set, however, has a lot of my
favorites, which I'm really, really glad to see and finally
have in my collection on DVD. However, the transfers on the
last set were better. Still, if you're going to buy a few of
these, just get the set. Retail is about 100 dollars, and
each one retails for 20. Considering these are great films
and you can get this set cheaper than 100, it's really worth
picking up. And if you're an Allen fan, you probably already
have gotten it.
