The first season of "Transformers Animated" is presented in 1.33:1 full screen. Other than a little bit of noise and shimmering, these are fairly good transfers. Detail is fine, colors are quite bold and well-saturated and the overall image quality is quite sharp. Well done.
The English Stereo tracks are excellent, and much stronger than the one offered on the show's animated movie. The sound effects really stand out here, and despite being limited to stereo effects, they do make an impression. There are pans across the speakers, and all sorts of noises - vehicles rumbling, explosions, robot battles - sound crisp and powerful. Dialogue is clear and easy to hear too, and the show's musical cues (plus the updated theme song) also come through well. Fidelity is also high on these tracks too. I was pretty impressed, and those who like the series should be please by the amount of energy these stereo tracks offer.
A Spanish Stereo mix is also on the disc, plus English closed captions are also included via your television.
Giant robot lovers and young boys should enjoy this new animated Transformers series, but 1980s purists are sure to prefer the original. The sole extra on the set isn't much, but the episodes look and sound pretty darn good.I'm sure this series is an effort to sell more toys and keep the hype machine going until "Transformers 2" hits in the summer of 2009. So if you have an interest in the show... you know who you are.
