The cable series from Showtime which then went to syndication is now on DVD courtesy of MGM. "Stargate SG-1" is a spin-off series of the film, and if you're not interested in buying the boxed set, MGM has released the first two volumes in the set seperatley for your own enjoyment at a low price. The first volume includes the pilot episode - "Children Of The Gods", "The Enemy Within" and "Emancipation". I wouldn't call this best series of all time or even the best science fiction series of all time, but is entertaining and creates more layers and builds upon what the actual theatrical film of "Stargate" created.

For a television series, this transfer looks nothing short of phenomenal. I especially liked the fact that the episodes are shown in anamorphic widescreen, which is a rarity, although television series are delving into it more and more. The colors look excellent, being bright and lustrous, and there were little to no artifacts or blemishes to be found.

A Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround track is provided here, and sounds quite good. While the series is not necessarily effects driven, when there are explosions and things of that nature, they come through very well. Also provided are Dolby Surround tracks in French and Spanish, along with French and Spanish subtitles and English closed captions.

Nothing. Ah well, the set contains the bulk of the extras.

If you're not interested in buying the boxed set and want the first three episodes (that including the pilot), this is for you. MGM has not included extras here, but it's a good presentation of a TV show for a low price.
