Unfortunately, the first volume of the third season of "Gunsmoke" doesn't look too pleasing. The episodes are excessively grainy, and the amount of blemishes and dirt pieces get in the way at times. Detail is adaquete, but the episodes lack sharpness. Noise and edge halos also diminish the transfers.

The English Mono tracks aren't much either. There is some hissing in the background for episodes which can be a little bit of an intrusion. The dialogue, sound effects and music are audible - but sound a bit lacking, even for your standard mono track. Fidelity is decent, but that's really about it.

English closed captions are available through your television.

The third disc features Sponsor Spots. Fun to watch, but don't take these ads to heart. Remember kids, smoking is bad for you!

"Gunsmoke" fans will probably want to continune building their collections, but for more casual fans of the series, there is not much here to warrant a purchase. The sponsor spots are fun if short, but the episode presentations don't offer much. For die-hard fans of the series only.
