John Travolta stars as Chili Palmer, a loanshark who
heads to LA on some "business." Once out West, Chili follows
his dream to be in the Hollywood scene. Utilizing his
gangster background, he forces his way into the movie
business. He meets B-movie director Harry Zimm, who owes a
princely sum for some gambling debts. Problem is, Harry
doesn't have the money. He took cash from some seedy LA
gangsters to produce a movie. Getting squeezed from two
sides, Harry sees his only way out as a sure-fire script
that hot actor Martin Weir (Danny DeVito) is interested in.
Chili starts scheming and tries to balance a legitimate
career with mob life. What results is a humorous look at
East and West coast crime.
Get Shorts plays in either widescreen or standard format.
In either case, the color was slightly amiss. The transfer seemed to
have too much red tone included that forced me to adjust the
picture settings. Once the blush was removed from the
characters, the video quality was as good.
The audio was impressive. The true theater experience
comes across with the DVD. The songs were right out in front
of the dialogue. The music and dialogue struck a perfect
balance.
The only included feature is the original theatrical
trailer.
One of the better movies of the 1990's, Get Shorty is a
funny movie but a DVD short on features. Despite the lack of
features, the film itself carries the DVD. Its cast of
memorable characters and excellent sound track makes Get
Shorty a worthy addition to your collection.
