The first volume of the fourth season of "Dynasty" is presented in 1.33:1 full screen. Fleshtones and detail are above average, with good - if unspectacular - color saturation. The prints, however, are very dirty - scratches, blemishes, dirt pieces and all sorts of marks are quite numerous and distracting. Noise, shimmering, artifacting and grain also diminish the transfers. The image quality overall is on the soft side, too. These are soiled transfers that should not really please anyone.

The English Mono tracks are straightforward affairs. Dialogue is clear and easy to hear, musical cues are audible as are the sound effects. Nothing sounds incredibly distorted, but the tracks are a bit on the hollow side. The result may be how they were recorded originally, but still come off as quite flat.

English closed captions are included via your TV, and there are subtitles on the DVD in English and Spanish. Mono tracks in Spanish are available, too.

Nothing.

With no extras and disappointing presentations of the episodes, the first volume of the fourth season of "Dynasty" is a tough recommend to anyone but major fans of the series (and those who have a penchant for Aaron Spelling-produced soap operas). If you fall into one of those two categories, a purchase will probably be considered. But for the rest of you, it's probably a pass... unless you want to rent for some nostalgia fix.
