The episodes are in 1.33:1 full screen, and are not in the best shape. Shimmering, noise and edge halos appears on the cartoons, as does some blemishes and dirt pieces - all of which can be real distractions. Detail is average, and color saturation is only a little above that (but nothing smears). The episodes are also pretty grainy and soft. Sorry Alvin, but you've seen better days.

English Stereo is the only game in town, and the tracks are decent enough. The sound effects and assorted Chipmunk antics really don't make an impression in stereo, but the musical numbers in the episodes and the opening theme come off as much more lively. Fidelity is okay, but dialogue is quite clear and easy to hear. The tracks meet expectations, given how they were recorded way back when.

English closed captions are available through your TV set.

Nothing.

I guess Alvin and his brothers have had a bit of a comeback after their live action movie made an insane amount of money at the box office. With that said, I assume this - and the other Alvin cartoon DVD releases out there - are meant to cash in on that success. I'm sure kids will be entertained by these cartoons, and probably those who are nostalgic for this 1980s Alvin series. The episodes are in average shape, but the price is right. If you have Chipmunk fans in your family, then go nuts.
