Weekend Box Office, New Reviews and New Staff
Member
The box office was slightly healthier this week, but
still a little disappointing, but then again, it's better
and movies had some decent takes, so no one should be
complaining too much. The sequel to 1998's pretty succesful
teen thriller shlock, "Urban Legends: Final Cut" made a
decent 8.8 million. Not spectacular, but not bad,
considering the horrendous reviews and I think this was made
for a low price, so I'm sure a profit will be reaped in.
The horror classic "The Exorcist", with new footage,
brought in a really nice 8.5 million dollars, on a mere 664
screens. Coming in third was last week's big success,
"Almost Famous", this time is went on quite a few more
screens. The film made a good 7 million on 1,193 screens,
and is slated to go wide next week. Dreamworks, once again,
is doing its "American Beauty" strategy. As I said, I loved
the film and I think everyone should check it out.
"Bring It On" and "The Watcher" were fourth and fifth
with 4.2 and 3.6 million, respectively. "Bait" made 3.4
million, "Nurse Betty" racked up 3.3, "Space Cowboys"
remained on the top 10 with 2.2 million, coming in an eight
place tie with "What Lies Beneath", and the other new movie
this weekend, "Woman On Top", made 1.9 million.
As far as the site goes, you may noticed a few more
reviews up this weekend, which is always good. So if you
haven't checked em out yet, be sure you do.
Finally, I have added a new member to the site. I want
everyone to welcome Wayne A.. He did the excellent
Gundam
Wing review and wonderful
Repo Man
Special Edition review. Wayne is a freelance writer and
has a BA in journalism. Be sure to check out his staff
profile!
That's it for now. See you all real soon!
