HAPPY
HANNUKAH!
December 21st, 2000
Mononoke Arrives, New Reviews, "What Women
Want", 150 Reviews!
Yes, after all the delays, the madness, the anxiety of it
all,
Princess
Mononke is on DVD at last! Be sure to read my review,
it's my most anticipated disc this year. And if you have
been following the site, you know my obsession about this
release. It's well worth it, so check out the review!
That's not all, there are three other new reviews to
check out as well.
Small
Time Crooks by me,
Perfect
Blue by Ron and
Dead
Kennedys by James (stay away from the disc!). All are
great reads, so check those out if you can. These reviews
mean that we've crossed the 150 mark! Woohoo! Only another
50 to go until 200... not bad at all. Another landmark...
The weekend box office was quite healthy, and The
Grinch got knocked to number three with 13 million. In
first, a new December record was set with What Women
Want... which is what women wanted. It made 34.4
million, a great opening and a great number. In second was
Dude Where's My Car? which wasn't screened to critics
but made 14 million in second. Disney's latest animated and
reworked film, The Emperor's New Groove, scored a
decent but not too spectacular 10 million at the box office
in fourth. Keep in mind that most sales were for kids
tickets.
Rounding the box office was Vertical Limit in
fifth with 9 million, Proof Of Life went down to 5.2
million (I heard it cost 80 million to make) and Dungeons
and Dragons took ninth with a dismal 2.2 million. What a
bomb.
And that's about it... today Golden Globe nods were
announced, a few surprises, next update I'll get into that
more. I want to see if some staff can post their thoughts
too... oh yes a Happy Hannukah to everyone (I'm
Jewish, so I gotta get that menorah out of the closet).
Happy Holidays everyone, and the madness is almost
over...
