Something's Gotta Win

Opening to some pretty good reviews, America was in the mood for some romantic comedy this week as the Diane Keaton-starrer Something's Gotta Give topped the box office with a pretty healthy 16 million. Dipping quite a bit was Tom Cruise's epic The Last Samurai with 14 million - whether the film will be able to hold up during the holidays remains to be seen. Still, given it's large production budget, the film actually making a profit margin seems a bit dim.

Two new comedy debuts also lacked fire this weekend. The Farrelly Brothers' latest, Stuck On You, opened with a pretty weak 9.4 million. Fairing worse (and with some dreadful reviews) is the teen flick/remake, Love Don't Cost A Thing with 6.3 million. The Haunted Mansion also continues to fall apart, raking in only 6.1 million this past weekend.

Two vastly different Santa-themed movies tied for sixth with 6 million: Elf and Bad Santa. Also taking a large dip was Honey, only bringing in 4.8 million this weekend. However, the film's budget was low and has pretty much made it back at this point so it's not too bad off. Rounding things off are The Cat In The Hat with 4.1 million (it seems this will struggle to top 100 million) and Gothika with 2.7 million.

Next week... one of the most popular film sagas of all time concludes and is surely to break some kind of box office record. See you then DVD fans!
