Good Kitty
While it did not
reach a "Grinch"-like opening gross, the critically
lambasted The Cat In The Hat brought in a strong 38.3
million over the weekend. While it seems doubtful the film
will get close to 2000's "The Grinch" as far as grosses, it
seems like another hit for Universal in this competitve
holiday season.
Opening in a decent
second was the thriller Gothika starring Halle Berry.
Delayed from a late October release, the 19.2 opener is a
good start. Also doing quite well and on the verge of making
100 million is the holiday charmer Elf with 18.7
million. Master and Commander: The Far Side Of The World
is still doing well with a 15.2 take this weekend, while
Love Actually should be a nice sleeper this season as
it's brough in another 8.6 million.
The news is even
worse for The Matrix Revolutions as it brought in
only 7 miillion this weekend - there's no way this one will
even cross 200 million. Brother Bear slid down to
seven with 5.3 million while Looney Tunes: Back In Action
is a bomb for Warner with only 4.2 this weekend.
Rounding out the top ten was Scary Movie 3 with 3.1
million and with 2.6 million, Radio.
Can Eddie Murphy
get rid of a cat over Thanksgiving? See ya next week DVD
fans!
