Battle Of The Blood
You can't keep
these remakes down... budgeted at less than 10 million, many
were surprised (including myself) that the new Texas
Chainsaw Massacre grossed an astoundinging 28 million.
Another bloody movie, Kill Bill: Vol. 1 dropped to
second with only 12.4 million this weekend. But will
"Massacre" have legs in an upcoming competitive movie
season? We shall see.
In a disappointing
third was Runaway Jury - not even an all-star cast
could get droves of people to see this one. The School Of
Rock, the best film I've seen so far this year,
continues to pack in houses by adding another 11 million to
its gross - chances are good this one might top over 80
million.
The news was good
for Clint Eastwood's Mystic River. After opening to
some of the year's best reviews, the film expanded to wide
release this weekend and made a nice 10 million. Also
holding strong is the family film Good Boy! with 8.9
million, but it will certainly be threatened by the upcoming
releases of "Brother Bear" and "Elf."
Intolerable
Cruelty is looking like a dud with only 6.5 million this
weekend, while Out Of Time took a substantial drop to
eight with only 4 million. Rounding out the top ten was
Under The Tuscan Sun with 3.3 million and with 2.7
million, The Rundown.
So will a spoof of
horror movies overtake a remake of one next weekend?
Probably, but as always... stay tuned DVD fans!
