School Rocks
With rave reviews
and excellent notices for star Jack Black, not to mention
some great pre-release buzz, The School Of Rock shot
to the top of the weekend box office with a very nice 19.6
million. Expect good word of mouth to make this one of the
biggest fall comedies. Black and company beat out another
newcomer, the Denzel Washington starrer Out Of Time
that received positive to mixed reviews. But taking a
dip was last week's winner The Rundown with 9.6
million - that's nearly a 50 percent drop.
The news was still
good for Under The Tuscan Sun which made another 7.6
million, while Secondhand Lions which came in fifth
with 5.1 million. Underworld is dropping pretty fast,
only making 5 million this past weekend. However, the
critical indie hit Lost In Translation came in
seventh with an impressive 4.1 million - not bad for a movie
that's on less than 900 screens.
Rounding the top
ten out were some September releases - The Fighting
Temptations (3.3 million), Once Upon A Time In Mexico
(2.6 million) and Cold Creek Manor (2.5 million).
But Black and company hold their own against Quentin
Tarantino's long-awaited "Kill Bill"? Stay tuned, as always,
DVD fans...
