Top Of The "World"
The well-hyped
vampire/werewolf romantic epic, Underworld, opened in
first place over the weekend with a pretty strong 21.7
million. While some expected a bit more for this September
release, it has already made back its budget and plans are
in full swing for some sequels. How it'll hold up in future
weeks remains to be seen...
The wonderful
family drama Secondhand Lions may turn out to be the
season's sleeper hit, surprising many with a very
respectable second place take of 12.1 million. In third was
another new release, that being the musical comedy The
Fighting Temptations with a decent 11.7 million. Last
week's number one movie, Once Upon A Time In Mexico,
dropped to fourth will 11 million.
The only other
major release this weekend, Cold Creek Manor, turned
out to be a dud with poor reviews and 8.1 million for the
weekend. Matchstick Men made 7.5 million, Cabin
Fever dropped a hefty 55 percent with 3.9 million and
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star made 3.7 million.
Rounding out the top then were Pirates Of The Caribbean:
The Curse Of The Black Pearl with 3.4 million and the
critically acclaimed Lost In Translation with 2.6
million.
Will any of these
movies hold up in weeks to come, especially with a slew of
high profile releases on their way? Probably a few will but
you never know... stay tuned, DVD fans!
