Once Upon A Time at the box office
The fall movie
season is starting to pick up pace, as the third in Robert
Rodriguez's "El Mariachi" trilogy, Once Upon A Time In
Mexico,
opened at the top with 23.4 million. However, it may soon
face some stiff competition. In second was another newcomer
(a movie I really loved), Ridley Scott's Matchstick
Men with 13
million. Critic reviews were mixed, but if word of mouth
holds, this could prove to be a nice little sleeper.
Another newcomer,
the indie horror flick Cabin Fever had an impressive debut of 8.6
million. Dropping to fifth, but not dropping to so much as
far as gross was Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star
with 5
million. Also holding on tight was Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of
The Black Pearl with 4.7 million. In sixth and seventh
place were Freaky Friday and Jeepers Creepers
II with 4
and 3 million, respectively.
Rounding the top
ten out was the summer success Seabiscuit with 2.7 million, S.W.A.T. (also with 2.7 million) and
finally, Kevin Costner's Western Open Range, also with 2.7 million.
With a slew of new
releases next weekend, including the anticipated
Underworld, will this week's releases and some
of summer's favorites hold on to a spot on the top ten? Stay
tuned, DVD fans!
