"My Big Fat Greek" Near-Take Over
Ouch! Many were
certain My
Big Fat Greek Wedding would FINALLY take the top spot on
the charts after 21 weeks in release, but no, it had to
settle for second with a whopping 10.4 million (and should
cross 100 million any day now). In first? The crticially
lambasted, teenage "Fatal Attraction" rip-off
Swimfan was number one with a nice 11.3
million. This was a surprise of sorts, and should be quite
profitable, seeing how the film was pretty cheap to
make.
In third was the
on-the-shelf DeNiro cop drama City By The Sea with 8.9 million, which was
certainly nothing to scream about. Signs passed 200 million with a 7.9 million
take over the weekend, while XXX took in 5.2 more million.
Spy Kids 2:
The Island Of Lost Dreams brought in three million more.
Another summer sequel, Austin Powers In
Goldmember,
took in another 2.7 million.
Last week's new
release, Feartdotcom, dropped with 2.4 million this
weekend, while the Spider-Man/Men In Black
II double
feature took in a disappointing 2.1 million (probably
because everyone's already seen them at this point).
Finally, Blue Crush is about to wash out of the top ten,
with 1.9 million.
Will "Greek"
finally take the top spot next weekend? Stay tuned DVD fans,
like always...
