Shining "Star"
Well, kinda. The
slowest weekend box office in the past two years, the new
David Spade comedy (which I enjoyed) took the top spot.
Dickie
Roberts: Former Child Star opened in first with a very meager 6.6
million. Lukewarm reviews probably didn't help it so much.
Taking a major dip was last weekend's champ, Jeepers Creepers II
- only
taking in 6.5 million over the weekend. But those
Pirates Of
The Caribbean are still going strong, ranking in
third place with 5.7 million and outpassing "The Matrix
Reloaded" to be the second biggest film of the summer, and
quite possibly the year.
Closing in on 100
million is Freaky Friday which brought in 5 million
over the weekend, while S.W.A.T. brought in another 4.7 million. Heath
Ledger's latest, The Order, tanked with 4.6 million (you know a
movie is pretty bad when studios don't even screen it for
critics). Next up was Open Range with 4.2 million and then
Seabiscuit
with 3.7
million. Rounding out the top ten were Freddy Vs. Jason
and
Uptown
Girls, each
with respective takes of 3.2 and 2.4 million.
While this past
weekend isn't a promising start to the fall movie season,
things are bound to pick up next weekend. Will Robert
Rodriguez have another hit on his hand with "Once Upon A
Time In Mexico"? As always, stay tuned DVD fans!
