"XXX" x 2
Holding the top
spot for the second week in the row is Vin Diesel's action
funblast XXX, taking a hit with only 22.1 over the
weekend, losing more than half its audience. It should make
well over 100 million, though. Close behind was
Signs with 19.3 million this weekend,
followed by newcomer teen surfing movie Blue Crush with a decent 14.1 million.
This might be a sleeper hit if the strong reviews, cool
marketing and most importantly, word of mouth become
effective. We'll see.
Spy Kids 2: The
Island Of Lost Dreams scored another 11.5 million, while
Austin
Powers In Goldmember took in 8.7 million more. And yet
again, My
Big Fat Greek Wedding rises with an awesome 5.7 gross for
the weekend. That movie sure has legs. Rounding the rest out
of the weekend box office top ten was Blood Work, Road To Perdition and The Master Of Disguise
with 4.8,
3.8 and 3.1, respectively.
Oh wait! I'm
missing a film everyone else forgot! The Adventures Of Pluto Nash
was tenth.
No advance critics screenings, terrible post reviews, a near
100 million budget and a 2.1 million intake for the weekend?
Wow! I can't think of the last turkey to hit the screens
since that Cuba Gooding Jr. buddy flick nearly three years
ago around this time (and also released by Warner with no
advance press screenings!)
