Discs Are Rated
July 10th, 2001
An odd fourth of July since it landed during the middle
of the week, the box office was still quite strong for the
week and the weekend. Over the weekend, Cats &
Dogs was the number one film with 21.7 million, while
Scary Movie 2 was in a disappointing second with 20.5
million. A very good gross (no pun intended), but compared
to the first weekend's monstrous 42 million opening, it's
not too great. However, since opening on the fourth it's
made about 35 million.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence dropped to three with
only fourteen million, and this is quite a disappointment at
the box office for a Spielberg film. Newcomer Kiss Of The
Dragon opened in fourth place with a decent 13.3 million
while The Fast And The Furious made 100 million with
In sixth Doctor Dolittle 2 walked off with 10.5
million while Tomb Raider made 6.7. Shrek was
in eighth with 6 million, followed by Atlantis The Lost
Empire with 5 million and Baby Boy with 4.8.
