The Rich And The Furious
A surprisingly good weekend at the box office over the
weekend, where The Fast And The Furious opened to
critical pans and a whopping forty million dollars for first
place. This is certainly good news to Universal. Personally,
this is a movie I think that could have bombed (it was
delayed once) or taken off. It was the latter obviously. No
surprise... a lot of guys love hot chick and fast cars.
What I thought would be in first was second, that being
Dr. Dolittle 2. The film actually garnered pretty
decent reviews, but fell short of the original's opening
(that of course was one of the biggest hits of 1998). The
film had a strong opening with twenty-five million, and
there will be some repeat business there.
In third was Lara Croft: Tomb Raider which went
down over the week, but made 19.7 over the weekend. It'll
easily pass the 100 million mark within the next week or
two. In fourth was Atlantis: The Lost Empire with
12.5 million and in fifth was Shrek, still going
strong with 10.4.
Swordfish was in sixth with 7.7 while Pearl
Harbor continues to sink at seven with 6.8 million.
Moulin Rouge was in eight with 3.8 million,
Evolution in ninth with 3.2 and The Animal
with 2.9.
Next week... the secret, highly hyped Spielberg film
"A.I." and then after that July 4th box office madness.
Look for plenty of new reviews this week, so stay tuned.
