The First "Q"
With February now
half-over, this month sure has some breakout hits. In its
first weekend out, John Q. captured the top box office spot with
an impressive 23.6 million at the box office (Denzel sure
can open a movie). In second and making back its original
budget more or less is Britney Spears' feature film debut,
the love it or hate it Crossroads with 17 million. In third was the
once direct to video and now theatrical release of
Return To
Never Land,
Disney's "Peter Pan" sequel making a nice 15 million. In
fourth was Big Fat Liar with 11.4 million and Collateral
Damage with
9.6 million.
Oscar®
contender A
Beautiful Mind still continues to play strongly with
9.4 million, while Hart's War opened to a rather lukewarm 8.9
million (I'm sure this will deterioate during the upcoming
weeks - too bad MGM couldn't convince New Line to delay
"John Q."). Black Hawk Down made another 7.2 million,
Super
Troopers
brought in 7.1 million during its first weekend while
Snow
Dogs
rounded the top ten off with 6.7 million.
