"Dare" To Be First
No major surprises
here as the latest comic book movie to hit the big screen,
Daredevil, claimed the top spot for the long
President's Day weekend. Even though the film receieved
mixed reviews, that didn't stop fans of the comic or the
curious from seeing it, as it raked in an impressive 45
million dollars.
In second was the
hit, enjoyable romantic comedy How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
which
continues to pull in strong numbers, this weekend taking in
20.7 million for the long weekend. And obviously
captializing off all its Oscar® nods, Chicago brought in a healthy 14.5
million. And - surprise, surprise - the once direct-to-video
The Jungle
Book 2
brought in a really strong 14.1 million (maybe since there
are a lack of true kiddie films out there?).
Shanghai
Knights
also continues to do well, settling for fifth place with a
cool 12.7 million (it's likely to surpass the gross of the
first film). The Recruit is also starting to slip, taking in
7.2 million. Final Destination 2 took home a nice 6.2
million, while Kangaroo Jack took in a decent 5 million
as it's about to hop over the 60 million dollar mark.
Finally, the romantic comedy Deliver Us From Eva and Oscar® contender
The
Hours took
in 4.4 and 3.8 million, respectively.
There's a slew of
new releases next weekend, so stay tuned to see how all of
these films hold up...
