The kangaroo got the money...
In a sign that the
end of the world is near, the vulgar kiddie comedy
Kangaroo
Jack
debuted at the top of the charts this week with a very
impressive 21.8 million. I guess it's no surprise, since
most parents ignore reviews anyway and there are no films
aimed at kids out. In second place was another newcomer,
also opening with bad reviews, the buddy comedy
National
Secuirity with 16.8 million. Last week's winner,
Just
Married
dropped to third with 13.7 million.
Catch Me If You
Can and
The Lord Of
The Rings: The Two Towers were fifth and sixth, and were quite
close in their numbers. "Catch" made 12.52 million, while
Gandalf and company took in 12.5 (and also crossed the 300
million dollar mark!). Also gaining theaters and money is
another award hopeful, Chicago. Taking in a strong 9.7 million, it
should hold steady for weeks to come as it gets wider and
wide.
The week's other
newcomer (which I saw and found slightly amusing),
A Guy
Thing, only
took in a decent 8 million. About Schmidt and The Hours took in 6.8 and 5.7
respectively, while the romantic comedy Two Weeks
Notice is
just about off the charts with 4.7 million.
