Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
I hope
everyone had a nice new year and is looking forward to
2002... and 2002 DVD releases too. I also hope everyone had
a nice holiday (even though I wished that last week) and
break if you had one. In anycase, January is somewhat a slow
month for movies at the theater... Oscar contenders open
wide from limited releases and some other movies... nothing
too major, open up.
So how was the last
weekend at the box office for the new year? Pretty damn
good! The
Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The
Ring
grossed 56.9 million over the course of December 28th to
January 1st. In a somewhat but still strong second place was
Ocean's
Eleven with
26.1 million, followed by Jimmy Neutron: Boy
Genius with
22.2. Ali is off to a pretty decent start with
about 20 million, while Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's
Stone made
16.9.
For sixth place,
Vanilla
Sky racked
in another 16.3 while Kate & Leopold raked in 14.5 million (I
found it to be a pretty charming romantic comedy). Rounding
out the top ten was A Beautiful Mind with 12.6 (in limited
release no less, and it was one of the year's best in my
opinion), Monsters Inc. with 9.4 and The Majestic
with 8.7.
